Berlin taxi drivers were celebrating Thursday after authorities banned the ridesharing service Uber from operating in the city because of safety concerns.

Commuters in several European cities were faced with traffic chaos Wednesday as taxi drivers took to the streets to protest Uber, an app that allows users to hail a cab from their smartphone.

Cabbies and train workers walked off the job on Wednesday, leaving traffic snarled in some of Europe's biggest cities, as they protested apps like Uber.
