As the phased re-entry of Fort McMurray continued Thursday, thousands of residents returned home to survey the damage, some coming back to complete destruction.

The Blacksand Executive Lodge, which provides accommodations to oilsands workers north of Fort McMurray, was destroyed by fire, Notley confirmed Tuesday. About 665 units were lost in the blaze.

Fort McMurray is still too dangerous, damaged and chaotic for anyone but emergency workers to even enter. Slowly, however, a detailed picture of the damage is emerging, as seen from space.
