The union representing workers at a Cargill meat plant in Alberta that's the site of a large COVID-19 outbreak will have its concerns listened to by the Alberta Labour Relations Board at a hearing scheduled next week.

Cargill said Wednesday that it will be resuming operations at the High River plant on May 4, bringing back one shift. 

A source provided the audio of the teleconference to Global News, in which employees can be heard raising concerns about safety at the plant.

The significant surge in cases is believed to be linked to an outbreak at the Cargill Meat Solutions meat-packing plant.

The number of cases in the town of roughly 13,500 jumped this week as local businesses shift operations.
