Oct. 21, 2019 is federal election day in Canada. It is also an important Jewish holiday called Shemini Atzeret, following the festival of Sukkot.

Under federal law, election day can be no later than Oct. 21, the date of the Jewish holiday known as Shemini Atzeret, when Orthodox Jews are not permitted to work, vote or campaign.
