Charges are pending against the driver of a vehicle that struck and killed a young man, and sent his girlfriend and her one-year-old child to hospital, on a Calgary street.

The driver of the vehicle suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash and had to be extricated by firefighters.

The Calgary police traffic unit was on scene and all roads in the area were closed.

Shortly after 8 p.m. on Aug. 8, a man in his 60s was struck and killed while riding his bike near the McKenzie Meadows Golf Club. 

Officers responded to the two-vehicle collision at James Mckevitt Road S.W. and Spruce Meadows Trail S.W. on Monday.

Calgary police said a vehicle lost control rolled on the embankment at the off-ramp of Stoney Trail and McKnight Boulevard N.E at around 3:40 p.m.

Officers hope to further the investigation by releasing photos of a man at a Saddleridge house on the night of the deadly collision.

Calgary police confirmed Monday that speed and alcohol were factors in a fatal single-vehicle crash over the weekend.

Police said the crash happened near Deerfoot Trail and 130 Avenue S.E. on Sunday at around 2:15 p.m.

One person was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 22X Saturday morning, while several others were injured.
