Chilliwack had long been considered a safe riding for the Liberals, but there was already a potential for change with well-known city councillor Diane Janzen on the ballot for the Conservative Party of B.C.

This new riding in 2017 was won by BC Liberal Jas Johal over BC NDP hopeful Aman Singh by just 136 votes.

Voters in the area have elected an NDP MLA in every election but one since 1991.

The BC NDP spent a lot of time focusing on this riding in 2017 and it paid off when Rick Glumac made the successful jump from municipal to provincial politics. He appears to have done it again.
