Prince George RCMP service dog, Astro, is very good and playing the child’s game Hide-and-Seek.

It’s a good thing he is because he was able to find a missing five-year-old child recently, who had actually gone ‘missing’ in his own home.

Prince George RCMP received a report of a missing child, who had not been seen for an hour. When officers arrived, the boy’s mother told them she had searched the house before calling the police. Three officers then searched the house to ensure the boy wasn’t there.

The Mounties brought in Astro to look. When he entered the boy’s room, he immediately started giving indications to his handler that someone was in the room. Astro then focused on a six-drawer dresser and stuck his head inside one of the drawers. Still not seeing any part of the boy, the officer began to remove the drawers in the dresser. It seems the boy had climbed into the dresser and fallen asleep under the drawers. Officers had previously moved the dresser to look behind it, but had no idea the boy was there.

At the time the young boy was found, RCMP were in the process of calling out additional resources to help them.

“Our police service dogs are a crucial part of the service we provide to our community,” says Cpl. Craig Douglass, spokesperson for the Prince George RCMP.Their unique abilities cannot be duplicated and their results are often amazing. Astro is very good at playing Hide & Seek!”
