SASKATOON – The holiday season is full of joy reuniting family and friends but for some it can be a reminder of the loved ones that are no longer here.

The memory tree at Market Mall has been an annual tradition for 15 years helping those cope with loss by filling out a paper dove and placing it on the evergreen tree.

The idea of a memory tree was established by the palliative care services at St. Paul’s Hospital to help put a smile on faces during the holidays.

“This gives them the opportunity to stop to share those feelings if they wish or silently place the dove on the tree in memory of someone who has died that they’ve loved and cared for,” said Meredith Wild, manager of palliative care at St. Paul’s Hospital.
