Some anonymous flyers are heating up an important referendum about a new police detachment in Summerland.
The yellow flyers are urging people to vote “no” in Saturday’s election, saying the proposed new detachment is too expensive, too big and there hasn’t been enough public input.
Acting mayor Bruce Hallquist said the numbers and the details in the flyer are inaccurate, and he hopes people will get the facts before they head to the polls.
“If they want to campaign against it, they should be campaigning against it on the facts, not on misinformation,” Hallquist said.
The flyer puts the cost of the building at $8.8 million but Hallquist said the referendum only asks to borrow $3.125 million.
The referendum will take place Saturday, October 2nd from 8 am to 8 pm at Summerland Secondary School.
