KELOWNA — The companies have some of the best tech ideas in the Okanagan but they need investors. On Wednesday during the 7th Venture Okanagan Investor forum, six companies pitched their ideas with the hopes of landing a coveted deal. The winner also gets a $5,000 event prize.
Among the six ideas: gaming sites and an online events calendar.
“It gives entrepreneurs a way to present an idea. For those who are further down line, its continued validation that thing they’re doing is correct,” said Steve Watson, of Venture Okanagan. “For new entrepreneurs it makes sure its a fully thought through process.”
Organizers say the six companies are the best of almost two dozen who applied but it’s not just about investments. Those presenting can walk away with mentors, something arguably just as important, especially for companies trying to take that next step.
“There’s an opportunity to gain an investor but often our entrepreneurs gain nothing else but a mentor, and that’s just as valuable as a cash prize,” said Watson.
The next venture forum will happen in the spring.
