Toronto teen battling terminal cancer inspires thousands

ABOVE: When Olivia Wise sang Katy Perry’s Roar, it went viral. Now a group of university students began their own campaign for her. And it too is getting attention. Carey Marsden reports.

TORONTO – A Toronto teen battling terminal brain cancer is receiving an outpouring of support and inspiring thousands to donate to cancer research.

16-year-old Olivia Wise uploaded a cover of Katy Perry’s single “Roar” to YouTube last month and it has since been viewed nearly 1-million times after Perry herself caught wind of it.

The latest health and medical news emailed to you every Sunday.

After seeing the cover, Zev Gasner, a York University student, created a video of his own.

Gasner’s efforts produced a video showing over 1-thousand messages of thanks to Olivia.

Gasner has been in contact with Olivia’s family and said he will present them with the video shortly.
