TORONTO – A fatal shooting leaves one man dead after a police standoff in the Sherbourne and Wellesly area.

Toronto Police blocked off a part of Sherbourne St. around noon Wednesday after reports of an armed suspect in the area.

Toronto EMS confirmed one fatality, a middle-aged man, adding that he may have died from self-inflicted wounds.

There is no word yet on the man’s identity.

Our Lady of Lourdes, a nearby elementary school at the corner of Sherbourne and Wellesley, was put into lockdown, but the Toronto Catholic District School Board says students are safe.

Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit is currently probing the incident and have assigned six investigators and three forensic investigators to the case.
