‘Newsies’ hits the road, will stop in Toronto

TORONTO – Good news, Toronto theatre fans: the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical Newsies is making its way to town for a six-week run.

The production will be staged at the Princess of Wales Theatre from July 8 to August 16, 2015.

Set in turn-of-the-century New York, Newsies tells the story of Jack Kelly, the leader of a group of teenage newsboys who band together to fight publishing titans who try to raise distribution prices of the newspapers.

The musical features a Tony-winning score with music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Jack Feldman and a book by Harvey Fierstein.

The show premiered on Broadway in March 2012 and is now approaching its 700th performance.

Ticket information has yet to be released for the Toronto run.
