CALGARY- The town of Canmore, Alberta is being recognized by an iconic internet firm for capitalizing on the opportunities the internet provides.
Canmore is one of several Canadian municipalities to be given a Google eTown Award. It’s the second straight year the town, which borders Banff National Park, has received the award.
IPSOS and Google Canada determine who receives the awards, and say they aim to recognize cities where businesses are investing in online tools and resources to attract new customers and expand their business opportunities.

One group making an effort to fully exploit the potential benefits of the internet is Tourism Canmore Kananaskis. The group says it found success by revising its website and embarking on a new AdWords campaign.
“We had a website that really was not doing what we needed it to, and we wanted to drive traffic to a new website, “says Luke Raymond, the tourism group’s marketing specialist. “We saw overall traffic growth of 112 per cent pretty much immediately.”
The other 2013 Google eTown Awards were given to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Saint-Sauveur, Quebec, Newmarket, Ontario, and Whistler, British Columbia.
