Husband of hit-and-run victim makes an emotional plea to driver a year after her death

It has been almost one year since Nilo Tumanda’s wife Leonida was killed by a hit-and-run driver.

She was struck at East 43 Avenue and Prince Edward Street in Vancouver. She died in hospital and the driver responsible has still not been identified.

Nilo is now a single parent, raising their daughter by himself.

Police say she was one of 15 people killed in hit-and-run crashes in Vancouver over the last decade, and only two of the cases, including Leonida’s, remains unsolved.

“For us, we just want to have this accident solved, because it’s hanging, it’s not closed,” says Nilo.

Cst. Brian Montague with the Vancouver Police Department says they want the driver that hit Leonida to “do the right thing.”

“It’s never too late to do the right thing, if they give us a phone call,” he adds.

“Eventually we expect to catch up with you.”
