REGINA – “Clearly there’s becoming a greater disconnect between the people that are buying groceries in the store everyday and where there food comes from,” explained Marty Seymour, CEO of the Canadian Western Agribition, which he sees as an opportunity to re-connect. “It’s the biggest show of its kind in the country right in the heart of Regina. We tell the Ag story everyday.”
And with opening day falling on the holiday Monday, a lot of families were present, wanting to learn more about that “Ag story.” Now in its 43rd year, Agribition attracts about 120,000 visitors each year.

“We’ve become an entertainment destination, a rodeo, the biggest livestock show in the country and a huge international event,” said Seymour.
“$37 million in terms of tax revenue for the province and about $20 million of expenses by people who just come throughout the six days – so this is a big impact on our economy,” said Mayor Michael Fougere.
Still Agribition organizers are working to address the challenge of aging infrastructure of the livestock facilities on the west side of the grounds.
“In the last two years, we’ve invested just short of $1.5 million in lighting, roof, floors,” said Seymour.
Now Agribition is looking at a long-term business plan, partnering with the city and Evraz place to continue roping in the spectators and keep them entertained.
