Siberian tigers coming to Assiniboine Park Zoo

WINNIPEG — Two more Siberian tigers will soon call the Assiniboine Park Zoo home.

The Calgary Zoo confirmed on Thursday night that two young tigers, also known as Amur tigers, will be moving to the Winnipeg zoo sometime in December.

The two cubs, Samkha and Vasili, are brothers and were born in March of 2012.

Calgary Zoo officials say they were worried about the male cubs getting to breeding age and wanting to mate with their mom and sister. They said they knew this day would come when the cubs were born.

The Winnipeg zoo recently announced it plans to expand its tiger habitat to a 26,000-square-foot area.

Earlier this week, the Assiniboine Park Zoo announced its two-year-old Amur tiger would be heading to the Cherry Brook Zoo in Saint John, N.B.
