Revelstoke man wins $20.2 million Lotto 6/49 jackpot

A 68-year-old Revelstoke, B.C. man is more than $20 million richer after winning the entire Lotto 6/49 prize, the British Columbia Lottery Corporation announced Friday.

Peter Mueller’s ticket, purchased at the Malones Confectionary in Revelstoke, matched all six numbers in Wednesday’s draw to win the $20,223,182.30 jackpot.

Mueller found out he hit the jackpot while stopping for an oil change in Vernon. It turned out to be an oil change he will never forget.

“I have always hoped to win but never thought it would happen to me. I have seen people win on the news before though, so I knew it was possible,” he said.

After hearing that the winning ticket was bought in Revelstoke, Mueller rushed to Village Green to see if he was the lucky winner.

“The clerk thought I was joking until she had seen the numbers for herself,” Mueller said.

“She validated the ticket and confirmed the win before she could believe her eyes.”

The recent retiree said he plans to consult a financial advisor before deciding how he’ll spend his millions, but he plans to take a trip to Mexico to play golf and swim, two of his favourite hobbies.

The new Lotto 6/49, launched in September, guarantees a $1 million prize every draw.
