It will be a daily ritual between now and Remembrance Day – students taking part in sunrise ceremonies at the Field of Crosses along Memorial Drive.
On Friday morning, dozens of students from Masters Adcademy paid tribute to Canada’s war dead, an emotional experience for many.
Grade 6 student Reanna Cross hopes no crosses will have to be added to the field of more than 300 in the future.

“I sort of make it okay – I just pretend that its all okay and everything is going to be fine in the end.”
Myles Billay, a Grade 11 student from Juno Beach school, which specializes in Canadian studies, raised the Canadian flag.
“It’s actually really good that students are coming out,” he says. “It’s teaching them how to be part of the ceremonies in the future and how to respect solders and future soldiers of the world. It felt really good to raise the flag of Canada.”
For Reanna and all the students, it’s a chance to honour those who have served our country.
“Just saying ‘thank you’ for serving our country and ‘thank you’ for being the best you can.”
