UPDATE: Second CTrain collision downtown

For the second time in one day, a CTrain has collided with a vehicle on the tracks downtown.

It happened Friday afternoon on 9th Street at 4th Avenue S.W., the same location as the earlier crash.

The driver of the vehicle was not seriously injured.

Calgary Transit has told Global News the signals were working properly.

In the first crash, CTrain service into downtown was delayed for several hours after emergency crews were called out at about 8 am.

The train was headed downtown when it collided with a car between 4th and 5th Avenue at 9th Street.

The driver of the vehicle was the lone occupant in the car and was checked by EMS at the scene but not taken to hospital.

Calgary Transit, Police and Fire Department were all at the scene but no one on the train was injured.

According to officials the train would have been travelling at about 40 kilometers an hour when it hit the car.

At the time of the collision, lights were flashing at the CTrain crossing but there are no guard arms there.

Transit service was delayed as crews worked to clear the scene, in the meantime the city provided shuttle buses for affected passengers.
