EDMONTON – The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is warning the public about a man who was recently released from the Saskatchewan Penitentiary and will be living in Edmonton.
Ernest Thomas Meigs was recently released on statutory release after completing a portion of his 14 year and six month sentence, police said.
The 38-year-old was sentenced for break, enter and commit, break, enter with intent; theft over $5000, sexual assault with a weapon (x2), kidnap, unlawfully confine; and pointing a firearm, stemming from an incident that occurred in May 2002 in New Westminster, B.C.
Police consider Meigs to be an untreated violent sexual offender who poses a risk of significant harm to the community. The EPS believes he’s at a high risk to re-offend.
Officers say it is in the public’s best interest to be informed that Meigs will be living in Edmonton.
