WATCH: Is Mount Baldy facing delays or closure?

OLIVER — Empty ski lifts aren’t an unusual sight for this time of year, but whether it will remain this way is a major concern for those living in Mount Baldy’s village.

“You buy a place in the ski hills, you expect the ski hill to be running,” says cabin owner Sandra Smith.

In most years, Mount Baldy fans were able to buy season passes as early as mid-August.

But it’s almost November, and there’s no word on when tickets will go on sale.

“The problem is, we’re just going through some financing and it’s taking a little longer than we thought it would, so consequently we’ve been delayed all the things necessary things to totally open,” explains Bob Boyle, one of the resort’s principle owners.

But Boyle says the money is coming.

“I’m anticipating we will have that in place in within the next two weeks,” he says. “We’d like to say that we’re going to open on the regular date, but it may be later.”

Matt Koenig, the local general manager, acknowledges there will be a delay once the resort gets the green light to sell tickets and explains how it will affect the mountain.

“Things which aren’t necessary won’t get done, but all those things that are mandatory and necessary will still get done,” he says.
