TORONTO – Mayor Rob Ford’s Teflon popularity may be showing signs of wear: A new poll shows most Torontonians disapprove of Ford’s job as mayor.

A Forum Research poll, conducted on behalf of The Toronto Sun and released Wednesday, found Ford’s approval rating has slipped to 39 per cent from  49 per cent just a month ago.

According to the newspaper, the poll showed 61 per cent of Torontonians disapprove of Ford’s actions as mayor.

But the mayor retains a loyal base of support: 18 per cent of respondents think the mayor is “one of Toronto’s best mayors.”  Another 18 per cent described him as “good.”

The mayor’s 49 per cent approval rating last month came shortly after he won commitments from all three levels of government to extend the Bloor-Danforth subway line into Scarborough. That was a high he hadn’t seen since the 2010 election. The 10 point drop comes mere days after the third anniversary of his election.

The mayor’s approval rating has hovered around the mid-40s throughout the year, seemingly unaffected by various scandals.
