REGINA – It’s been touted as the best “summer” job, but now it might just be the best job period.  The Saskatchewanderer program is taking applications for a full-time position.

Started three years ago, the aim of the program was to showcase summer tourism in the province. A student was hired to travel to as many communities and events she could fit into her schedule, produce videos and promote the province via social media. Now the program has been expanded to a year-round position.

The pilot project is a partnership between the Ministries of Parks, Culture and Sport, Agriculture and Economy and Tourism Saskatchewan.  The successful candidate will have the added duties of visiting winter tourism operators, as well as promoting Saskatchewan’s quality of life, said Parks, Culture and Sport minister, Kevin Doherty, “This is a new opportunity for us to showcase what Saskatchewan has to offer with respect to tourism activities, but increasingly important is we want to be able to demonstrate not only to people in Canada, but throughout the world, the tremendous amount of job opportunities here.”

The program will jointly cost $120,000. Tourism Saskatchewan CEO Pat Fiacco said it’s a good opportunity to profile winter tourism operators and winter activities in the province which he says is highly attractive to foreign tourists.

“We’re very fortunate that we are a four season province. There are places around this world that don’t have the chance to experience winter and I think we have an opportunity to showcase what it is that they can experience here in Saskatchewan.”
