UPDATE: Three people dead after small plane crash south-east of Port McNeill

Three people are dead after a Cessna 185 plane operated by Air Cab crashed on West Cracroft Island, located off the northeast tip of Vancouver Island.

RCMP say the plane crashed 20 meters up an embankment near Potts Lagoon around 11:50 a.m. this afternoon.

Glen Friesen with the Transportation Safety Board told Global News the plane departed Port McNeill and was supposed to drop off a passenger at Potts Lagoon.

Three people were on board at the time of the crash; two were found in the plane and the third person was found nearby as they were ejected from the plane.

Friesen says the area is very remote and there are not very many villages around it.

A Cormorant Chopper, RCMP and three Transportation Safety Board investigators are heading to the scene.
