ABOVE: Peel launches a vulnerable people list. Lama Nicolas reports.
TORONTO – Peel Regional Police are using Autism Awareness Month to remind the public about a vulnerable person registry available in Mississauga and Brampton.
The service allows authorities to have access to vital personal information for vulnerable people in a time of crisis.
Peel police describe a vulnerable person as someone “who, due to a medical, mental health, or physical condition may exhibit patterns of behaviour that may pose a danger to that person.”
Examples include someone with a brain injury, a mental condition, or Alzheimer’s Disease.
Caregivers or parents of a vulnerable person can submit information online.
York Region has a similar program currently in operation. Toronto police don’t have a registry.
