Over 1,200 drivers caught speeding Thanksgiving weekend

SASKATOON – Thanksgiving turned out to be more expensive this year for a number of drivers in Saskatchewan.

Between Oct. 11-14, Mounties handed out 1,283 speeding tickets in the province during ‘Operation Impact.’

Another 48 drivers were charged with impaired driving and 34 seatbelt charges were laid.

In total, police spoke with 3,014 drivers during the national strategy which was created to decrease collisions through increased patrols, education and enforcement.

Prior to ‘Operation Impact,’ police across the province took part in ‘Operation Fall Frenzy,’ handing out 383 speeding tickets along with 71 seatbelt violations and 31 tickets for failing to stop at a red light or stop sign.
