PCB’s found at NDG School

MONTREAL – 6 PCB laced transformers are being removed from Royal Vale school in Notre-Dame-de-Grace. On September 20th fire fighters told board officials that it was time to get rid of the old transformers.

“We took action immediately”, explains EMSB spokesperson Mike Cohen. We called in experts and they did an environmental assessment. But there never was or ever has been any danger to anyone in that building.”

Global News received an anonymous letter from a group of parents wondering why they were only informed after the environmental assessment.

In the anonymous letter they state “keeping parents in the dark and ill informed is a travesty.”

Parents were sent letters from the school board explaining the situation last week Wednesday explaining that back in the 1990’s the school had followed proper procedures for handling the PCB laced transformers by storing them in the basement.

Officials at the English Montreal school board say it will take a couple of weeks to remove all the PCB’s.
