Dean Brown, the Ontario teenager accused of killing the mother and sister of his ex-girlfriend, made a brief court appearance on Monday.
The 18-year-old appeared calm despite the large crowd that packed a Belleville, Ont., courtroom for his first in-person appearance since his arrest on Friday.
Brown faces two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the shooting deaths of Tracy Hannah, 46, and her daughter Whitney, 14. Both were found inside their Belleville-area home early last Friday.
Brown was arrested hours after the incident in nearby Trenton.
Another daughter, 18-year-old Shannon Hannah, was airlifted to Kingston General Hospital where she remains in serious but stable condition. Friends say the accused and Shannon, a first-year Loyalist College nursing student, had recently ended their relationship.
The hearing Monday was attended by friends of both the accused and the victims.
One man hollered "sick puppy," at the accused, while two women waved, hugged and cried as Brown was led away.
Brown is scheduled to appear in Belleville court again on March 22 via video link.
