Hundreds brave the weather for annual AIDS walk for life

Over five hundred people took to the streets of Vancouver for a cause today — the 28th annual Scotiabank AIDS Walk for Life.

The event kicked off this morning at Sunset Beach.

This year’s theme was all about the shoes with participants encouraged to wear their most colourful footwear.

Funds raised from the event go to Positive Living BC’s Complementary Health Fund. The fund supports people living with HIV in BC by providing access to products like vitamins, supplements, bottled water and over-the-counter medications.

This year, a total of $205,650 was raised.

A study in 2011, estimates there are more than 71,000 people in Canada living with the disease with more than 3,000 new HIV infections occurring every year.
