KELOWNA — The night before a murdered Kelowna woman disappeared after leaving her motel room, the man accused of killing her was at the motel.
That evidence was given Thursday at the first degree murder trial of Joey Verma.
A clerk at the Day’s Inn says he asked Verma if he had received three switchboard phone calls that were put through to room 108.
That’s the room Brittney Irving was staying in, with the rent allegedly being paid by Verma.
The clerk testified Verma replied the calls weren’t for him, but instead were for Irving.
A drug dealer at the time also testified Thursday, saying he delivered four pounds of marijuana to Irving on the day she disappeared as part of a 70 pound deal Irving was putting together.
When Irving didn’t show up afterwards to pay for his pot, David Osborne phoned Joey Verma asking where she was.
Verma denied knowing Irving’s whereabouts.
Verma is charged with first degree murder in the shooting death of Irving in the spring of 2010.
The Crown contends Verma killed the 24 year old woman to steal the large load of marijuana she was allegedly going to sell him for about $100,000.
