TORONTO – Britney Spears is following in the Louboutin-adorned footsteps of Canadian stars Celine Dion and Shania Twain by signing on for a residency in Las Vegas.
The 31-year-old pop star announced Tuesday she will do a 50-show, two-year residency at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.

The news comes only a day after the official release of “Work Bitch,” the first single from her eighth studio album, due out Dec. 3.
Spears — who was a Mouseketeer in the early ’90s with Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera and Canada’s Ryan Gosling — rocketed to fame with 1999’s …Baby One More Time and the follow-up Oops!… I Did It Again.
Her 2004 Las Vegas marriage to friend Jason Alexander was annulled after 55 hours. Then, after only a few months together, she married Kevin Federline, with whom she had sons Sean and Jayden.
Spears and Federline were divorced in 2007.
The Louisiana-born star then fell into a pattern of bizarre behaviour, including shaving her head during a late-night visit to a hair salon and lashing out at paparazzi. In early 2008 she was placed on an involuntary psychiatric hold after being removed from her home by police during a custody dispute.
Spears has since managed to repair her public image. She spent a season as a judge on the U.S. version of The X Factor and her seventh studio album, released in 2011, topped the charts.
Celine Dion has performed at Caesars Palace since 2002 and is under contract for shows up to 2019. Shania Twain, who performs at Caesars when Dion is off, is booked until next year.
Elton John, Cher and Bette Midler have also had ongoing shows at Caesars.
