EDMONTON- An 18-year-old man is in custody after an early morning shooting in central Edmonton.

Police were in the area of 111th Avenue and 94th Street around 2:30 a.m. Saturday when they heard multiple gun shots coming from a nearby hookah bar. Officers say the suspect was outside and allegedly fired shots into the bar.

“Multiple rounds were fired into the establishment,” said Acting Staff Sergeant Jon Morrison. “The business was occupied. Best estimate there was about 10 to 15 people inside the business at the time of the shooting.”

Morrison says the suspect left the scene on foot.

“After a brief foot pursuit, (officers) were able to apprehend the male as he was discarding a firearm.”

Police say the weapon was recovered from the scene.

Several witnesses have come forward and are cooperating with police as they continue to investigate.

“Indications so far through the investigation is that there was somebody inside the business that this fellow had some issues with,” Morrison said. “A historical issue between the two of them.”

The man is now facing several firearms-related charges. His name has not been released at this time.

No one was injured in the incident.
