OTTAWA – Natural Resources Minister Joe Oliver will be in Washington D.C. today to meet with U.S. Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz.
Oliver’s office says he will be promoting Canada as a responsible energy supplier to the United States
Last week Ottawa sources said that Stephen Harper wrote to President Barack Obama last month with an offer to work more closely on emissions regulations to help win approval for the Keystone XL pipeline project, which would move Alberta oilsands crude to refineries along the Texas Gulf Coast.
The Prime Minister’s Office wouldn’t confirm that a letter was sent, but said harmonizing emissions policies with the U.S. had long been a government goal.
Environmentalists have been ramping up their efforts to kill Keystone XL.
President Obama is expected to announce his verdict on the project by the end of this year, or early next.
