WATCH: Man wears ‘idiot’ sign after threatening police

An Ohio judge orders a unique public punishment for a man convicted of threatening to kill a police officer while intoxicated.

58 year old Richard Dameron was convicted of threatening a Cleveland police officer on 911 calls.

So the judge ordered him to hold an apology sign – outside a Cleveland police station – describing himself as an idiot.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Dameron started his sentence Monday and must stand outside for three hours each day for the rest of this week.

He admits he’d been drinking heavily before he made those calls.

This isn’t the first public shaming ordered by this judge.

You may remember, last September a school bus driver used his cell phone to record Shena Hardin, driving on a sidewalk, multiple times, to avoid stopping at a school bus stop sign.

The same judge sentenced Hardin to carry an idiot sign for two hours a day for two days.

Her sign said: “only an idiot would drive on a sidewalk to avoid a school bus.”
