Vancouver’s legendary Stanley Park turned 125 this weekend and the city threw the popular landmark a birthday party packed full of music, historical tours, sports and nature displays.
There were five festival zones in the 400-hectare park to mark the anniversary.
Second Beach hosted a full line-up of musical performances, food concessions, outdoor sports and a beer garden.
The Arch had a family-friendly stage with performances by local children’s entertainers, Coast Salish artisans and cultural displays.
There were historical tours and displays in the rose garden and ticketed performances such as Theatre Under the Stars at Malkin Bowl and Boca del Lupo at the Stanley Park Service Yard parking lot.
The Brockton Sportsapalooza featured rugby and cricket games, as well as demonstrations within a licensed area. There was also an open house at the HMCS Discovery at Deadman’s Island.
Nature lovers can visit Lost Lagoon’s Ecoharmony zone where the Stanley Park Ecology Society lead wildlife trail walks and mural art workshops.
The Vancouver Aquarium, located in the park, celebrated the big birthday by giving a rescue sea otter a special cake made of shrimp, crab, mussels and a delectable clam icing.
Elfin is one of three rehabilitated sea otters that were rescued as orphans from Alaska and nursed back to health.
