Man charged in death of father back in court

Alvin Buckwold, charged with second-degree murder in the death of his father, makes brief court appearance.

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. – The son of a prominent Saskatoon lawyer and mental health advocate charged in his death made a brief court appearance on Tuesday.

Ian Buckwold, 64, was found dead at an Emma Lake residence on July 14.

His son, 31-year-old Alvin Buckwold, was charged with second-degree murder

He was ordered to undergo a 30-day psychiatric assessment.

Buckwold was remanded in custody during until his next court appearance on Aug. 27.

His lawyers will take the time to decide whether to waive his rights to a preliminary trial and move the case straight to Queen’s Bench for trial.
