TORONTO- A group of at-risk youth of the Durham region have a brighter future now because of Kenroy Wilson.
He’s the owner of a car care company, Ken Co’s Car Care in Pickering and three years ago he decided to start the Wilson Project.
“The Wilson Project is an organization that focuses on providing mentorship, partnership opportunities and job opportunities for local students in the Durham region,” Wilson said.
The project has helped many young people from the Durham District School Board and those within the community who are interested in the trades by giving them practical market-ready skills for employment.

Kenroy has partnered with many organization over the years, including the Family Life Centre which helps get young people off the street and provides an opportunity to grow and learn about themselves.
“The Wilson Project is quite amazing in itself. They were willing and able to take out participant on for a 6 week period, where he was able to learn skills to further his career,” Geraldine Wade-brown, Facilitator of the Family Life Centre said.
The project gives each person the chance to experience hands-on work in an automotive facility in auto mechanics, administration and marketing.
“Oh, life was pretty still. I wasn’t really doing too much, you know, I had things I wanted to do, it just took these people to quit it in place and get it in motion,” Jason Cromwel, an apprentice at the Wilson Project said.
Over a four month period, youth explore their full potential through training and life skills development. They also have the chance to be a part of a team environment.
