UPDATE: Teen’s body found after plunging into water at Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park

The body of a teen who went missing after plunging into the water at Little Qualicum Falls Provincial park today has been found.

Dive teams are on-site and recovering the body.

Oceanside RCMP search and rescue crews had been looking for the 17-year-old who went missing after plunging into the water at Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park at 2 p.m. today.

The teen was climbing with friends on a rock face near the falls, when he slipped and fell into the water. He didn’t surface from the water and hasn’t been seen since.

The local search and rescue crew are at the scene along with RCMP and emergency personnel. The RCMP Dive Team has been called to the provincial park and is expected to arrive in the next few hours.

The teen’s family has been notified and is at the scene. His name has not been released at this time.

The cause of his death has not been determined, if the young man has died of drowning, he will be the 46th person to die from drowning in B.C. this year.
