According to police, the 25-year-old woman was the suspect’s ex-girlfriend.

“This story may be related to a love triangle.  This is one of the hypothesis considered right now,” Cst. Simon Delorme told Global News.

At last word, the female victim was in critical condition in hospital.  The 38-year-old male victim’s injuries are not considered serious.

He is scheduled to be arraigned at the Montreal Courthouse on Saturday morning.

“He’s known to police. He has a history of violent crimes against women,” Delorme noted.

Area residents said the neighbourhood was considered very safe and peaceful, but that all changed overnight according to Claudio Ianni.

“Yeah, we’ll definitely be adding an extra lock to the door tonight,”he said.
