The BC RCMP are continually assessing the situation regarding the AMBER Alert issued in California on August 6.
The Alert was issued for 16-year-old Hannah Anderson, and 8-year-old Ethan Anderson and has now spread to Oregon, Washington State and Nevada. It has not been activated in B.C.
It is believed Hannah and possibly Ethan are with a man named James DiMaggio. Authorities believe DiMaggio, 40, may have murdered the children’s mother, Christina, and possibly Ethan as well.
It is unknown if Ethan is with Hannah and DiMaggio because there were charred remains found of a child with the body of Hannah and Ethan’s mother in DiMaggio’s burned down home east of San Diego. However, the body is so badly burned, investigators are not able to obtain a DNA sample.
It is thought that their mother died from blunt force trauma.
DiMaggio is described as a close family friend.
Authorities believe DiMaggio was driving a 2013 blue, four-door Nissan Versa with California license plates 6WCU986, and say he may be headed to Canada or Mexico. His car was found on Friday afternoon in Idaho.
Sergeant Rob Vermeulen, senior media relations officer with RCMP’s E-Division says the BC RCMP are “definitely aware of the AMBER Alert” and they have been in contact with the San Diego Sheriff’s Department.
“There is no evidence to indicate they have crossed the border into B.C.” says Vermeulen, but adds the situation is continually being assessed.
Hannah is about 5-feet, 7-inches tall and weighs 115 pounds. She is Caucasian with blonde hair and blue eyes.
Ethan is Caucasian with sandy blonde hair. He is 4’11” and weighs 65 pounds.
Dimaggio is described as 5 ft 9, with brown hair and brown eyes. He weighs 150 pounds.
