TORONTO — British band Coldplay announced Friday it will release the first single from the soundtrack album for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire on Aug. 26.
The original song, titled “Atlas,” is the first Coldplay has ever recorded for a movie.
“I have great respect and admiration for Coldplay, and we are thrilled with how well they have connected to the themes and ideas within the film,” said Catching Fire director Francis Lawrence, in a release.
“Their unwavering passion and excitement for the project elevated the collaboration even further, and we can’t wait to share this music with audiences around the world.”
Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin is said to be a fan of the books by Suzanne Collins.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is set to open in cinemas on Nov. 22.
The first chapter, released in 2012, earned nearly $700 million at the box office worldwide. Its soundtrack album hit No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 and earned three Grammy nominations.
