Summer in the City: Osheaga takes Montreal by storm

WATCH ABOVE: Rachel Lau checks out some of the acts hitting the stage at Osheaga on Friday – and for the rest of the weekend.

MONTREAL – For the second year in a row, Osheaga is completely sold out.

And with a line-up that includes The Cure, Mumford and Sons and Ellie Goulding, it really is not a surprise.

People have come here from all over the world and the festival’s organizers say they can’t believe it.

“To see it come from very humble beginnings to get to this point where we’re actually selling out is truly a fantastic experience,” said director Nick Farkas.

“We have an incredibly hard working bunch of people that put this together and just walking around the site people are all smiles and it’s just a great, great moment for us.”

“I’ve always kind of like, mixed up music but this is the first time that I split the album and I put all the hip-hop stuff on one album and all the alternative rock on another, which is amazing and was so much fun,” he said.

He talked about what it feels like to represent Canada at Osheaga.

“Canada’s a great country to sort of admit that and then not just admit it but pursue it musically,” said k-os.

“I feel we live in a free enough country to do that and I love this country that we can do that and no one looks at you weird.”

From music on the outdoor stage, to theatre indoors.

Hudson Village Theatre’s Peggy and Grace tells the story of 2 retirees who leave their family and friends behind to embark on a crazy journey across the USA.

“I was quite intrigued by the play when I first read it,” said director Heather Markgraf Lowe.

“I liked the fact that they also have some multimedia and we show slides of their trip. So I thought, well this is a little bit different.”

Funnily enough, the play’s 2 stars are actually lifelong friends who have been waiting 25 years for a chance to work together.

“So far, I think you’ve been very well behaved,” said Joanna Noyes, who plays Grace, to Bronwen Mantel, who plays Grace.

“And I think the same of you,” replied Mantel. “That could change of course, we are sharing a dressing room.”

Peggy and Grace is on stage at Hudson Village Theatre starting August 7th-

And this is your last chance to go see Repercussion Theatre’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

It’s part of the 25th edition of Shakespeare in the Park.

You can catch it at Westmount Park on Friday night, Mont Bellevue on Saturday and Centennial Park on Sunday.

There are so many great artists at Osheaga this year, and organizers are already thinking about what they can to to top this success next year.
