PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. – About 240 people evacuated from their homes in northern Saskatchewan were returning home Wednesday.

Government officials said a forest fire continued to burn near Fond-du-Lac, but wind was no longer blowing heavy smoke into the community.

Cooler weather and some precipitation also helped.

Residents at risk of health and breathing problems were flown 900 kilometres south to Prince Albert last weekend.

About 550 people remained at the First Nation.

It was expected that all evacuees would be home by the end of the day.
