MONTREAL – An abandoned barn in Repentigny, Lanaudière was completely destroyed by fire overnight on Friday.

The fire, which broke out around 2:30 a.m., did not spread to neighbouring buildings, because the barn was situated on a large empty field.

A spokesperson for the Repentigny police confirmed that authorities believe the fire was suspicious.

As the old building was completely empty, the cause could not be accidental.

“There wasn’t even electricity,” he noted.

On Friday morning, firefighters were still on the scene.

An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the blaze.

This is not the first time for arson attacks in the area.

Two weeks ago, a car repair shop was hit by a Molotov cocktail, causing significant damage.

Five similar firebomb attacks have also recently targeted pizzerias in the area.
