A 60-year-old man is dead as a result of a police-involved shooting in Eastern Passage, N.S.
In a news release Thursday, Nova Scotia RCMP said they responded to a home in Eastern Passage after receiving a call of an armed man who was uttering threats.
Police said they arrived to find the man armed with a handgun outside the residence.
“The man did not respond to officers’ directions. After a short time, the man raised his handgun towards the responding officers,” police said in the news release.

“Responding officers discharged their firearms. EHS attended and the man was pronounced deceased at the scene.”
There were no other injuries, according to police.
Few other details have been released, but a neighbour told Global News that the incident happened outside of a home along Howard Avenue at around 4 p.m.
Nova Scotia’s Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) has confirmed they have been called to investigate the incident, but currently have no other details at this time.
SiRT is responsible for investigating all serious incidents involving police in Nova Scotia, whether or not there is an allegation of wrongdoing.
RCMP said it is not able to discuss the investigation further as it is now in the hands of SiRT.
This is the third fatal police-involved shooting in the Maritimes over the past five weeks.
Chantel Moore, 26, was shot and killed by police after officers carried out a wellness check at her residence in Edmundston, N.B. on June 4.
Moore had only recently moved to Edmundston from Port Alberni, B.C.
