For the fifth day in a row, Manitoba has no new cases of the novel coronavirus.
The 1,145 tests done Tuesday is one of the highest that have been conducted on any given day.
Manitoba’s Chief Public Health Officer, Dr. Brent Roussin, once again said the low numbers don’t mean a return to normal.
Despite that, the province announced Wednesday that Phase 2 of reopening will commence on June 1.
Roussin called the timing of Phase 2 “appropriate.”
“It’s a real safe plan, but it’s also a plan that shows that Manitobans have really stepped up,” to keep numbers down, said Roussin.
That doesn’t mean Manitobans should be relaxed, he said.
“We’re going to see more cases.”
On Tuesday, Manitoba health officials said the province had recorded no new cases, and only three cases have been reported in the past two weeks.
