TORONTO – Mayor Rob Ford renewed his call for subways through Scarborough.
The mayor has been a vocal supporter for building subways in Scarborough. In May, he led a charge during a city council vote on revenue tools to approve the extension of the Bloor-Danforth line into Scarborough, instead of the light-rail transit currently planned.
And now Metrolinx, the provincial authority on future transit expansion, is asking the city to give a clear position on the confusion created by the vote.
“What do we want? Subways or LRTs? We want subway folks,” the mayor said during a press conference Wednesday. “They want a clear direction from the city of Toronto and that’s exactly what I want to give them.”
The mayor has asked city manager Joe Pennachetti to draft a report on the various options for expanding the Bloor-Danforth line.
