Two people are facing charges after being caught red-handed by Saskatoon police Wednesday evening trying to break into a construction site.

Around 11:30 p.m., an officer on routine patrol noticed suspicious activity at a building under construction and Cornish Road and McInnes Way.

A man was trying to cut the lock to gain entry into the site and when he saw the officer, attempted to flee in a vehicle with a female. They then tried to flee on foot and were captured.

20 spools of stolen electrical wire and other construction tools were recovered.

A 45-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman have been charged with break and enter and will appear in court on Thursday.

The arrests were made as part of an on-going investigation into thefts from construction sites in the city.
