SASKATOON – No injuries were reported as a result of a construction grader sliding into the South Saskatchewan River on Tuesday.

At 10:25 a.m., Saskatoon Fire & Protective Services were called to a report of a construction grader entering the river.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

The city says the grader had been working along the east side of the riverbank by the Circle Drive South Bridge when it stalled and slid in.

The driver was able to safely jump from the grader before it became completely submerged.

Firefighters have verified that around 450 litres of the vehicle’s fluids have not been released into the river.

Due to the river’s current flow of 1500 cubic metres per second, removing the grader is postponed until a safe action plan is determined.
